Home of the Apollonia Oven

Apollonia is the Heart and Soul of Cherry Moon

Our beautiful Alan Scott hand-built wood fire oven was born in 2019 and named after Prince’s girlfriend in Purple Rain. When Kimmy was dreaming up Cherry Moon, she envisioned bringing an old wood fire oven back to life. She had been inspired by the essence and magic of old-school general stores spotted around Australia’s rural pockets housing beautiful historic ovens.

She spent years trying to find the right oven in the right location dreaming of bringing back the ancient ways of cooking with fermentation and fire. After facing many roadblocks while trying to make this dream come alive, she was forced to surrender and decided to go on a trip to the NT and connect with the land and people where she fell in love with native bush foods.

Upon her return, a site popped up in Sydney’s charming Annandale, so Kimmy decided to try and find someone to help her build her very own oven. She tracked down a beautiful soul who had built Alan Scott ovens and the rest is history. At the very last minute, he showed up to save the day and he, Kimmy and a few friends built Apollonia with their very own hands. The final touch, the façade of the oven, was brought back to life from an original Scotch wood-fired oven bakery in Ballarat from 1869.
